词汇 | piggyback |
词源 | piggyback. The correct word is pickaback, but virtually no one calls it that. Pickaback dates back at least to the late 16th century, when it is first recorded to mean carrying a person, es- pecially a child, on one’s back. The term may have its origins in a pack that is picked (pitched, thrown) on someone’s shoulders, but no one knows for sure. The term wasn’t corrupted to piggy- back, or pigback, until the late 18th century. |
