Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah. In January 2002 an Englishman legally changed his name to Zippity-do-dah, because he thought his previous name was too difficult to pronounce. Mr. Zippity-do- dah had to obtain permission from the Disney Corporation, for “Zippity-do-dah” is the title of a popular Disney song, whose lyrics begin “Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah, zippity-a, my oh my what a wonderful day. . . .” Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah is also used sarcastically in conversations after someone has said some- thing quite obvious that doesn’t need saying: “Well, Zip-a-Dee- Do-Dah.” Composer Allie Wrubel and lyricist Roy Gilbert won an Academy Award for the song in 1948.
