词源 | hectic. Hectic, which derives ultimately from the Greek hek- tikos, meaning habitual, was first used in English in medicine, to describe a fluctuating fever. By the late 19th century it took on the meaning of intense or feverish activity, or confusion that it mainly conveys today. |
