词源	greyhound. Noted for its great long-legged speed and keen sight, the greyhound breed of dog isn’t usually grey. The word grey in its name has nothing to do with color, deriving ulti- mately from Old Norse grey, which means “bitch,” hound com- ing from Old English hound, “dog.” The dog’s name is first recorded about a.d. 1000. Today its name adorns any swift ocean liner and Greyhound buses. Greyhounds, still used for hunting, are generally used in dog racing.
