sine die. A Latin expression used to mean “without fixing a day for future action or meeting,” as in “The assembly adjourned sine die.” Sine is the Latin for “without,” die the Latin for “day.” Italian author Carlo Guidi is said to have “died of shock” when he translated a religious work into Latin, presented a copy to the pope, and it was brought to his attention that the Latin word sine had been printed as sin throughout the book. |
