词汇 | slice |
词源 | slice. Often used by Americans instead of a piece of pizza when ordering pizza in a pizzeria or pizza parlor: “Gimme a slice anna small coke.” When a whole pizza pie is ordered it’s “Gimme a pie.” This word is first recorded in the United States in the early 1930s, when slices weren’t widely sold as they are today and pies prevailed, these usually eaten at a table in an Italian restaurant. It should be noted that while thinner pie- slice-shaped Neopolitan pizza can be asked for by ordering a slice, a square cut of thick Sicilian pizza shouldn’t be: “Gimme a piece of Sicilian.” Chicago pizza is a deep-dish pizza popular in the Midwest. |
