House with Lungs. Thornton Wilder referred to the Wyckoff House near the ocean in Newport, Rhode Island when he wrote in Theophilus North (1937): “There’s a house that the famous Italian architect, Dr. Lorenzo Latta, has called the most beauti- ful house in New England—and the healthiest. Built in the nineteenth century, too. He called it ‘The House That Breathes’ ‘The House with Lungs.’ ” |
