Great Father. A Native American name for the president of the United States. Dee Brown in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (1970) quotes Spotted Tail of the Brule Sioux as saying, “This war . . . was brought upon us by the children of the Great Father. . . .” Great White Father means the same and is also used as a humorous title today.
