In February 2005, the U.S. Mint released a new buffalo nickel with several differences. The Indian on the original coin was actually a composite of three Native Ameri- can chiefs—Iron Tail, Big Tree, and Two Moons—who posed for sculptor James Earle Fraser in 1911. The bison’s name was Black Diamond.
