bazooka. Arkansas musician Bob Burns invented the musical instrument called the bazooka in 1905, out of two overlapping pieces of gas pipe that could be used like a trombone. The name he gave it is supposedly from the obsolete slang word bazoo, meaning loud talk, with a humorous ending tacked onto it. In 1943 U.S. Army Major Zeb Hastings gave the name of the instru- ment to the rocket-projectile gun that somewhat resembles it. |
