Runglish. Another hybrid form of English like Spanglish (qv) and Franglish. Runglish combines Russian and English and has created such unwieldy words as hyam-boorgoors (hamburgers) and ized cyawfeh (iced coffee). According to Alan Feuer, writ- ing in the New York Times (June 14, 2005), “Runglish, as a lin- guistic term, is almost as infelicitous as it sounds when spoken aloud. The name is said to have been coined by veteran Russian astronaut Sergei Krikalev, who took part in the launch of the Russian-American space station in the fall of 2000. “ ‘We say jokingly that we communicate in Runglish’, Mr. Krikalev quipped at the time.”
