词汇 | run on the bank |
词源 | run on the bank. Though I haven’t encountered it in any dic- tionary or word book, this phrase does describe a crowd or mob of people rushing toward a bank that is believed to be bankrupt and unable to pay its account holders. The best movie description of this is in the film It’s a Wonderful Life. Since the establishment of the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corpo- ration) in 1933 there have been far fewer runs because this orga- nization insures deposits in member banks. |
