词源	French toast. In America French toast refers to sliced bread soaked in a mixture of eggs and milk before frying the dish golden brown. In England the popular breakfast dish is simply sliced bread fried in bacon fat or butter. The French themselves make it the same way Americans do, calling it pain perdu (“lost bread”) since the bread is “lost” in the other ingriedents.
