The first half of these compound words is an adjective describing the noun coming after it. The term comes from Sanskrit, the ancient Indo-European language of India. In Sanskrit bahu means “much,” and vrihi means “rice,” bahuvrihi meaning “much- rice.” Thus, one of the examples of the term is also the name of the term. |
