bald; Old Baldy. A bare mountain top without any trees or vegetation or such a peak sparsely covered with vegetation is called a bald. These balds are also called slicks, both words first recorded in the 1830s. Mountaintops covered with snow have since at least the early 1860s been called Old Baldy or Baldy. |
