lazy as Ludlam’s dog. Tradition tells us that old Mrs. Lud- lam, an English sorceress, had a dog who lived with her for many years in her cottage in Surrey near Farnham. So lazy was her dog that when strangers approached he always lay down or leaned up against a wall to bark, or didn’t bother to bark at all. There are several versions of the tale, all of them responsible for the proverbial as lazy as Ludlam’s dog. |
