词源	Gregg system. Gregg, the most widely used shorthand writ- ing in the world and by far the most popular in the United States, was invented by John Robert Gregg (1864–1948), an Irishman who explained Gregg in The Phonetic Handwriting (1888) and emigrated to introduce it in America. Once called “Light-Line Phonography,” it is an improvement on the earlier phonetic pitman and is much easier to write.
