词汇 | greenwich village |
词源 | Greenwich Village. A lower Manhattan district of New York famous as a literary and artistic community since the early 20th century—earlier than that if one considers that Thomas Paine wrote The Crisis there and that Edgar Allan Poe lived in the Vil- lage for a time. It’s called the Village because it was a separate village through the colonial period and into the early 19th century. |
