Jack Russell terrier. English country parson John Russell (1795–1883) was an avid foxhunter who rode to the hounds in his native Devon until he died at the age of 87. Though Oscar Wilde would have taken exception (see in at the kill), most everyone liked Jack Russell or “The Sporting Parson” and a fa- mous strain of hunting terrier was named in his honor. |
