词汇 | primrose |
词源 | primrose; primrose path. The primrose path is the path of pleasure, the path strewn with flowers, the lazy, self-indulgent way. The expression is first recorded in Hamlet: “Shew me the steepe and thorny way to Heaven; Whilst like a puft and reck- lesse Libertine Himselfe the Primrose path of dalliance treads.” The flower called a primrose is not a rose and not one of the first flowers of spring, as its name implies. It is said to be so named due to “a popular blunder.” |
