词汇 | deer |
词源 | deer. In King Lear Shakespeare writes of “rats and mice and such small deer.” This reflects the fact that in Old English deor, from which deer derives, meant any wild animal. Only in rela- tively modern times has deer come to mean only the species we identify it with today. See also reindeer. |
