词源 | demagogue. In ancient times the word demagogue, from the Greek demagogos, “popular leader,” simply meant a leader of the common people or great popular orator. It wasn’t until the 17th century that the word acquired its present pejorative connotation of a popular leader who gains power by means of impassioned pleas to the emotions and prejudices of the people. |
