词汇 | decrepit |
词源 | decrepit. “Very old, at the pittes (pit’s) brink,” instructs a 16th-century Latin dictionary in defining this word. Decrepit means more specifically, “weak, worn out, broken by age, ill- ness or hard use.” It comes from Latin decrepitus, meaning the same, which comes ultimately from Latin crepare, “to creak,” which those of us decrepit, or on our way there, often do. |
