词汇 | deep throat |
词源 | Deep Throat. The code name of Mark Felt, former assistant director of the FBI during the Nixon administration, who gave Washington Post reporter Robert Woodward information about the 1972 Watergate break-in. Deep Throat was borrowed by Woodward and fellow reporter Carl Bernstein from the well- known pornographic film of that name. Deep Throat has be- come a synonym for any secret source, just as Watergate (the Watergate office-apartment complex in Washington, D.C., which housed the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee) has for any scandal. Gemstone, the secret code name for the Watergate break-in, has been all but forgotten. The pornographic movie Deep Throat (1972) made over a half- billion dollars, but Linda Lovelace, the pseudonym of the woman who starred in it, wasn’t paid a cent. Linda Lovelace claimed that her husband at the time forced her to appear in the film, holding a gun at her back, and that the movie depicted her rape. Her story is told in her autobiography, Out of Bond- age, published a few years before she died in an auto accident in 2002, age 53. See smoking gun. |
