The ancient Greeks thought that the earth sloped to- ward the North Pole from the equator and for this reason named any particular part or region of the earth klima, “slope.” Since they also believed that the earth’s slope accounted for the varied weather in these different regions, they called the weath- er of a specific region its clima, which evolved into the English climate. |
