词汇 | hitter-ish |
词源 | hitter-ish. A new word from the world of sports—notably baseball. Hitter-ish was invented by San Francisco Giants coach Joe Lefebvre during the 2007 season in an effort to help Giant slugger Barry Bonds hit more home runs and become baseball’s all-time home run king. As Lefebvre put it: “He (Bonds) just looked hitter-ish, like the way he is . . . He was trying to hit line drives instead of hitting the ball out of the park.” Barry Bonds broke Hank Aaron’s home run record of 755 homeruns on Au- gust 7, 2007, although there have been many questions about his accomplishment. |
