词源 | cheechako. A newcomer, tenderfoot, or greenhorn in Alaska and northern Canada. The term comes from Chinook jargon and is often spelled cheehako and cheechaco. First recorded in about 1895, the word (in the form of chechaquo) is used to de- scribe the main character in Jack London’s famous short story “To Build a Fire” (1908). |
