词汇 peck-s bad boy
词源
Peck’s bad boy. This expression for a boy, or any person who annoys or embarrasses other people, is still heard today, if in- frequently. It is the creation of American humorist George Wilbur Peck (1840–1916) who, among many writings, pub- lished very popular newspaper sketches about a mischievous boy who played pranks on his father, these published in book form as Peck’s Bad Boy and His Pa (1883). Peck later was elected governor of Wisconsin, making him one of the few authors to hold public office (among them Dante, Yeats, Sir Thomas Malory, Victor Hugo, Ignatius Donnelly, John Greenleaf Whit- tier, Richard Sheridan, Hilaire Belloc, John Buchan, and Vaclav Havel).
