词汇 | cadogan hairstyle |
词源 | Cadogan hairstyle; Cadogan teapot. Perhaps the only man whose coiffure ever inspired a ladies’ hairstyle was William Cadogan, the first earl of Cadogan. Lord Cadogan (1675–1726) was a British soldier, famous for his intrepid leadership under Marlborough of “Cadogan’s Horse” cavalry. He later became commander in chief of the British army. A well-known portrait of Cadogan pictured his hair knotted in the back by a ribbon. This style was aped by 18th-century males, including many American founding fathers and became popular among ladies, too, when it was introduced by the duchess de Bourbon at the French court. The Cadogan teapot, a lidless teapot that is filled through the bottom, in an imitation of an inverted Chi- nese winepot, may also be named for Cadogan, though no one knows why. |
