A natural formation on a moun- tainside in New Hampshire’s White Mountains that resembled the face of an old man and was a popular tourist attraction un- til its destruction by natural causes in 2003. The old man of the mountain is also a name for the founder of the Assassins cult, Hassan ben Sabah, an 11th-century terrorist who operated in the mountains of northern Persia.
