Cheyenne. No one is certain about it, but the name of this North American Indian tribe of the Algonquian linguistic fam- ily, now found in Montana and Oklahoma, may derive from the French feminine for dog, chienne. French traders in Minne- sota may have so named them because the tribe, like many In- dian tribes, ate dog meat. |
