词汇 | books without e-s |
词源 | books without e’s. Among the French author Georges Perec’s unusual works was a novel in which the letter e, the most com- mon vowel, wasn’t used, and another in which e was the only vowel used. But the title here probably should go to American author E. V. Wright’s Gadsby. That novel was written without the use of the letter e, the author tying down the e key on his typewriter and producing a work some 50,000 words long. E. V. Wright’s feat was no mean accomplishment, as anyone will see who attempts to write even a paragraph under the same conditions. |
