| 词源 | musk. Musk refers to a pungent substance from the sex glands of the 20-inch-high musk deer that roams the Himalay- an and Atlas ranges. The best quality comes from Tibet, where hunters take it from the golf-ball-size scent glands beneath the animal’s stomach. Male musk deer secrete the strong-smelling musk to attract females, which may have inspired humans to think of it as an aphrodisiac. It is primarily used in perfumery— a pound of the stuff commanding five times the price of gold. Legend has it that Cleopatra wore perfume made from musk and that the Queen of Sheba wore it to drive King Solomon wild. |
