| 词源 | baobab tree. So thick is the baobab tree (Adansonia digitata)—up to 30 feet across—that several African tribes hol- low it out so that families can live inside, much like the mesquite is used in Central America. The baobab is grown as a curiosity in the southernmost United States. Arabian legend holds that it acquired its peculiar shape when the devil plucked it out of the earth and replanted it with branches underground and roots in the air. The origin of the tree’s name is obscure but may have something to do with that legend. |
