Avogadro’s law. Also called Avogadro’s hypothesis, this phys- ics law states that “equal volumes of all gases under identical conditions of pressure and temperature contain the same number of molecules.” It is named after its creator, Italian phys- icist Count Amedeo Avogadro (1776–1856), who developed it in 1811. Avogadro, who became a professor at the University of Turin, also has named after him Avogadro’s number: “the number of molecules in a mole of any substance.” A mole is the molecular weight of a substance. |
