词汇 | more temperate than zeno |
词源 | more temperate than Zeno. It is said that Antigonus II, try- ing to tempt the philosopher Zeno of Citium (c. 335–c. 263 b.c.) with luxury, invited him to be his houseguest. Zeno sent his pupil Persaeus in his place. The philosopher’s life was so consist- ent with his teachings that the saying more temperate than Zeno became proverbial in his lifetime.
