词汇 | aerobics |
词源 | aerobics. Derived from the Greek for “air” and “life,” aer and bios, aerobic was first used to describe an organism that re- quires air or free oxygen for survival. Its relatively new usage was first recorded around 1965, when the physical fitness boom began in the United States. In brief, aerobics is any exercise, such as running or swimming, that stimulates and strengthens the heart and lungs, thus improving the body’s use of oxygen. It can also refer to a physical fitness program based on such exercises. |
