词汇 | duct tape |
词源 | duct tape. Duct tape was developed for the army during World War II as a seal for the cracks in ammunition boxes. It was first called duck tape because water rolled off it like water off a duck’s back. After the war, the tape, which has many appli- cations, was used by plumbers to seal ducts and came to be known as duct tape. In early 2003, the government recom- mended the tape as an aid against terrorist bomb attacks, to prevent shattering of windows, etc. Critics said the tape was of little or no help. |
