词汇 sausage
词源
sausage. Sausage comes ultimately from the Latin word salus, meaning salted or preserved. This meat treat was invented cen- turies ago by the Chinese, but the planetary record for the big- gest sausage ever made was long held by bakers in Scunthorpe, England. Some years ago they reportedly made the Great Scunthorpe Sausage from this recipe: “Take up 738 pounds of ground pork and work in cereal to extend the mixture to 896 pounds. Take salt, pepper and sage and season to taste. Blend into mixture and force into 3,124 feet of sausage casing (pig in- testines). Will serve 6,248.” However, today The Guinness Book of World Records (1998) gives the title to a Canadian butcher shop that in 1995 made a “continuous sausage” 28.77 miles long.
