词汇 | santa ana |
词源 | Santa Ana. Strong, hot, dusty winds that descend from in- land desert regions to the Pacific Coast in the area of Los Ange- les. Sometimes said to be named for Mexican general Antonio López de Santa Anna (or Ana) (1795–1876) who commanded Mexican forces at the Alamo and who, legend has it, later intro- duced chewing gum to the United States when he brought chi- cle here from Central America. More likely, the winds are named for the Santa Ana Canyon of Southern California. |
