Albert Einstein was a dedicated pacifist and in 1930 made a speech declaring that “If only two percent of those assigned to military service would announce their re- fusal to fight . . . governments would be powerless. They would not dare to send such a large number of people to jail.” He was soon affectionately dubbed “Two percent Einstein” by a pacifist group, which made its slogan “Two Per Cent to Glory.” See einstein.
