frigate (n.)

“护卫舰”一词最早出现于1580年代的法语 frégate（1520年代），源自意大利语 fregata（那不勒斯语 fregate），与许多海船类型的名称一样，其起源不明。它是地中海语言（西班牙语、葡萄牙语、加泰罗尼亚语 fragata）中常见的词汇。最初是一种小型、迅速的船只； 随着时间的推移，这个词被用于越来越大的船只。
