Proctophilus winchilli. While they were fishing in the Gulf of California, Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck and his friend Doc Ricketts noticed a little fish that lived in the cloaca of the sea cucumber and that kept darting in and out of the creature’s anus. They named the hitherto unrecorded fish Proctophilus winchilli, after gossip columnist Walter Winchell. |
