词源	alkali. Arab chemists in medieval times extracted sodium carbonate from the marine saltwort plant, calling the substance al-qaliy, “ashes of salt wort.” Later chemists applied the term al- kali, a transliteration of the Arab word, to all salts with proper- ties similar to sodium carbonate.
