Wrote Lucia St. Clair Robson in Ride The Wind (1982): “. . . the men of God [on the reservation] stripped the warriors of their very reason for living, war. They no longer had any way to attain status within their tribe. Whis- key, the ‘stupid water’ that the People had always scorned, be- came their solace.” |
