词汇 cookin’ with gas
词源
cookin’ with gas. Efficient gas ranges were common in the United States before World War I, models including the 1912 Lindemann with four burners, a broiler, and an oven for $57. But starting in the 1930s, the U.S. gas industry began a public relations campaign trying to convince consumers to use gas rather than increasingly popular electric ranges. This resulted in the widely used saying now you’re cookin’ with gas, “now you’ve got the right idea, are on the right track,” etc. The same is true of the synonym to cook on the front burner (“Brother, you’re cookin’ on the front burner”).
