mongo. Mongo is trash or rubbish objects, collected from garbage cans, past and present garbage dumps, garbage dumpsters, and wherever else it can be found by intrepid foragers. The word’s origin may have first been used by sani- tation workers in New York City. Mongo hunters have furnished whole apartments with mongo, have found valua- ble jewelry, first editions, even a Revolutionary War–era tri- corn hat. For the last word on the subject see Ted Botha’s re- cent book Mongo: Adventures in Trash (2004). See also beach glass. |
