词汇 | money doesn’t grow on trees |
词源 | money doesn’t grow on trees. Usually said, angrily, as an ad- monition by parents to children who spend money recklessly. This is one of the most widely known proverbs in the language, yet I can find it listed in no U.S. or UK books of quotations. An- other good one is shake the money tree, “to make a great profit.” Still others include: money is the root of all evil; money talks; money bags; a fool and his money are soon parted; money’s not everything; money to burn; funny money. There must be nearly 100 of them in all. See also pin money. |
