Thomism. The philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas (ca. 1225–74), who has been called, among many more titles, the “Angelic Doctor,” the “Father of Moral Philosophy,” and the “Prince of Scholastics.” His name, Thomas of Aquino, comes from his birthplace in southern Italy, from where he set out as a Dominican friar on pilgrimages in search of truth and knowledge, against the wishes of his father, the count of Aquino. His system of philosophy has greatly influenced Ro- man Catholic doctrines.
