词汇 | champagne |
词源 | champagne. As defined by French law only sparkling wine produced from grapes grown in the French province of Champagne can, strictly speaking, be called champagne. It must be fermented in the bottle and varies from brut, the driest, to sweeter doux champagnes. Champagne has been called “the wine of love,” “the wine of the gods,” “the devil’s wine,” “the laugh of a pretty girl,” “the only wine that leaves a woman beautiful after drinking it,” and “the barometer of happiness.” It is of course produced all over the world today and is still “the wine of wines,” the most celebrated of all fes- tive drinks. dom pérignon is said to have cried out when he first tasted his historic version of it, “Come quickly, I am tast- ing stars!” |
